How to Create a WhatsApp QR Code for Customer Enquiries
Create a WhatsApp QR code with a verified chat link, an optional message and a clear customer workflow. Check the number before printing.

Quick answer
Create and test a WhatsApp click-to-chat link for your business number, then encode that HTTPS address with QRNest's website tool. A scan opens the chat journey; the customer still decides whether to send a message.

Choose the number and the job of the code
A shop-window code, a product insert and a business-card code can all open a conversation, but they may need different handling. Decide who receives enquiries, when the number is monitored and what customers should expect. A busy owner’s personal number is not automatically the best long-term destination for a public sign.
Write a concrete label such as “Ask about collection times on WhatsApp.” That sets a useful expectation before the scan. Avoid promising immediate replies unless your team can consistently provide them. A quick route into an unattended inbox is still a poor customer experience.
Build the chat link carefully
WhatsApp's official click-to-chat instructions describe a link using a full international phone number. The familiar structure is https://wa.me/COUNTRYCODEANDNUMBER, with the number written as digits rather than a formatted display number. Verify your actual international number instead of blindly removing every zero.
You can add an optional URL-encoded message using ?text=. For example, the message “Hello, I have a product question” becomes ?text=Hello%2C%20I%20have%20a%20product%20question. Treat the phone-number placeholder as something to replace, not a ready-to-use address.
- Confirm that the intended number has an active WhatsApp account and is appropriate for public enquiries.
- Create the chat link using the documented format or the link supplied by your WhatsApp business tools.
- Open it on a phone and confirm the recipient before composing anything.
- If you add a message, check spaces, punctuation and non-English characters in the resulting draft.
- Paste the verified HTTPS link into QRNest's website QR tool.
- Generate and scan the downloaded image, checking the recipient again.
Use a useful prompt without exposing customer details
A short prefilled message can explain where an enquiry started. For a repair shop, “Hello, I saw your collection leaflet” is more useful than a long script asking the customer to provide several private details immediately. Leave room for the person to describe their own request.
Keep passwords, customer account identifiers and other confidential information out of the URL. The encoded link can be copied from the image, shared and stored in browser history. A printed QR code is a public entry point, not a private channel for embedding sensitive data.
Test the conversation journey
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Recipient | The expected business number and profile open |
| Draft | The optional text is readable and editable |
| Customer choice | Opening the link is not described as sending a message |
| Fallback | A readable contact method is available if WhatsApp is unsuitable |
Test the final print with a second device. Do not send a test enquiry to a number you have not verified as your own or otherwise authorized. QRNest creates the code; WhatsApp and the receiving business handle the conversation.
Keep the destination under control
If your contact number changes often, consider a stable contact page on your domain with a WhatsApp button. That gives you a place to update contact routes and show opening hours. It adds a step, so choose it for a clear maintenance benefit rather than making every simple enquiry pass through unnecessary navigation.
Common questions
Does QRNest have to host a WhatsApp inbox?
No. The website tool encodes your existing link. It does not read messages, manage replies or verify ownership of the phone number.
Can I measure the number of conversations from the code?
A scan, a link visit and a sent message are different events. Use the reporting your communication setup actually provides, and avoid treating a general website visit count as a confirmed conversation.
